Peter Monau

Peter Monau ( lat.Petrus Monavius ) (born April 9, 1551 in Breslau , † May 12, 1588 in Prague ) was the imperial personal physician of Rudolf II of Habsburg .

He was the son of Stenzel Monau († January 31, 1557) and younger brother of Jakob Monau . After studying for several years in Wittenberg (1569) and Heidelberg (1573), he devoted himself to medicine in Padua , where he matriculated on October 24, 1575. After being in Basel on 20 April 1578 by Felix Platter with the work De dentium affectibus (oldest to dentistry was a PhD) Doctor of Medicine, he settled in his hometown of Wroclaw as a physician.

In 1580, on the recommendation of Johann Crato von Krafftheim, he became Archiater Caesareus (imperial personal physician) of Rudolf II. Von Habsburg.

Around 1584 he was in contact with the Heidelberg orientalist Jakob Christmann and Augsburg rector David Höschel .
