Peter Nitschke

Peter Nitschke (* 1961 ) is a German political scientist and professor at the University of Vechta .

Career

From 1981 to 1989 Nitschke studied modern history , political science and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1989 he received his doctorate in modern history. From 1990 to 1993 he was a habilitation scholarship holder from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and completed his habilitation in 1994 for political science in Münster.

From 1991 to 1994 he was a lecturer in the history of political ideas in Münster and subsequently held substitute professorships there in the field of international relations as well as German and European social policy and in 1996/97 in Essen in the field of political theory. From 1995 to 1997 he was a fellow with the research field “Regionalism in the European Union” in the study group “Europe” at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen. Since 1997 he has been university professor for "Science of Politics" at the University of Vechta.

Nitschke researches and teaches in the field of political theory and the history of ideas , with a focus on political thinking in the early modern period. In addition, he is dedicated to the topic of globalization , European integration and the political field of internal security .

Functions

From 1997 to 1998 Nitschke was vice dean of the humanities, cultural and social sciences department at the University of Vechta (then still university) and from 2000 to 2004 founding director of the institute for social sciences there. Since 2002 he has been a corresponding member of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Cultural History of the Early Modern Age at the University of Osnabrück . From 2002 to 2004 Nitschke was Vice President of the University of Vechta for Research and Promotion of Young Scientists, and from 2010 to 2012 Director of the Institute for Social Sciences and Philosophy.

Nitschke has been a member of the board of the German Society for Research on Political Thought (DGEPD) since 2007 , initially in the function of board secretary, and at the end of 2019 he was elected chairman. Since 2014 he has also been co-editor of the Political Thinking Yearbook .
