The German Society for the Study of Political thinking e.V. (DGEPD) is an interdisciplinary oriented scientific society dedicated to the study of the foundations of political action and answering on current political issues.

purpose

Self-image

A guiding principle of society, in which representatives of political science , philosophy , law and history , economics and sociology have come together, is the view that the theory of politics cannot do without any of these disciplines and their respective methods. Interdisciplinarity is thus understood as a prerequisite for scientific support and advice for practical policy , which are also two of the tasks that the DGEPD has set itself. For this reason, the cooperation of representatives from all disciplines who can and want to make a contribution to the understanding of politics is expressly desired.

aims

In addition to the fundamental endeavor to research political thought in all its social manifestations, with the purpose of a better understanding of politics and in particular to answer the questions that arise in public debates, the DGEPD is committed to promoting mutual understanding of different political cultures set a goal. This also means trying to make the German political discourse in neighboring European countries and on the other side of the Atlantic easier to understand.

In accordance with its objective, an important focus of the work of the DGEPD is dealing with the experiences of political injustice that German and other European societies have suffered in the recent past and continue to deal with, which is why the analysis and assessment of the National Socialist tyranny and the political crimes in the name of Marxism-Leninism represent recurring issues in society.

Functions

At the end of 2019, Peter Nitschke was elected as the current DGEPD chairman. The chair was previously held by Clemens Kauffmann , who took over this position from Barbara Zehnpfennig in 2015 . His deputy in the office of chairman is Frank-Lothar Kroll . The company's business has been managed by Martin Schwarz as its secretary, who took over the office from Peter Nitschke, since the end of 2019.
