Barbara Zehnpfennig (born April 23, 1956 in Cologne ) is a German political scientist .

Life

After studying philosophy, sociology, German and history in Berlin Barbara Zehnpfennig 1983 with a dissertation on Plato and spruce doctorate . In 1999 she qualified as a professor at the Helmut Schmidt University of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg with a thesis on Hitler's Mein Kampf . From 1984 to 1991 she taught at the Free University of Berlin and the University of the Arts in Berlin . From 1991 to 1999 she was teaching at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. Since 1999, Zehnpfennig has held a professorship for political theory and the history of ideas at the University of Passau . In 2017 she was appointed a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

Work areas

Ten pfennig's teaching and research focuses are ancient philosophy , American constitutional thinking, totalitarianism theory and especially National Socialism from a theoretical and historical perspective. Until 2015 she was the chairwoman of the German Society for Research into Political Thought (DGEPD), of which she has been a member since this year. In addition, she is a founding member of the Bavarian Center for Political Theory (BayPol), in whose doctoral program she is involved in the scientific management. Also until 2015, Zehnpfennig was one of the editors of the Political Thinking yearbook .

Zehnpfennig was a member of the Advisory Board of the Stasi Victims Memorial Hohenschönhausen . In 2018 she resigned due to the dismissal of the director Hubertus Knabe together with Freya Klier and Heidi Bohley under protest.
