Peter P. Klassen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter P. Klassen (* 1926 in the Chortitza colony on the Dnieper; † July 29, 2018 in Filadelfia , Paraguay ) was a German or Russian Mennonite teacher, historian and writer in Paraguay.

life and work

As a child, Peter P. Klassen fled with his parents from southern Russia via Moscow to Paraguay. From 1931 he lived and worked there in the Russian Mennonite colony of Fernheim . Klassen was recognized by historians as a specialist in the Mennonite history of Latin America and was editor of the Mennonite-Paraguayan magazine Mennoblatt . Klassen became known among the Mennonites and Plautdietschen Russian Mennonites for his historically well-founded short stories in the series Tales of History .

Peter P. Klassen wrote mainly in German , occasionally also in Spanish and in his native language Plautdietsch. Before classes took part in a study trip of the Plautdietsch friends , he collected and published proverbs and sayings in his mother tongue in issues of the Menno sheet. It was in this language that he wrote his book Frauenschicksale . It is, among other things, a story about his mother.
