Peter Paule

Peter Paule (born May 14, 1958 in Ried im Innkreis , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian mathematician and professor of mathematics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz . He heads the Institute for Symbolic Computing (RISC) and was chairman of the doctoral program “Computational Mathematics” from 2008 to 2018.

Life

Peter Paule studied mathematics at the University of Vienna (1976–1983) and received his doctorate with distinction as Dr. phil. (1983). From 1984 to 1986, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enabled him to do research at the University of Bayreuth at the Institute for Mathematics. The University of Linz then offered him a post-doctoral position at the Institute for Symbolic Computing (RISC) (1986–1988). After his community service (1989) he was finally employed as an assistant professor at the JKU (1990–1996). In 1996 he qualified as a university lecturer in mathematics (1996–2004).

After various visiting professorships - University Marne-la-Vallee, Paris (1998), University of Witwatersrand , Johannesburg , South Africa (1999), Pennsylvania State University , USA (2001 and 2003), University of Waterloo , Ontario , Canada (2002) he head of the FWF (Science Fund) special research area “Numerical and Symbolic Scientific Computing” (2003–2008), then head of the FWF doctoral college “Computational Mathematics” (since 2008). In 2005 he was appointed full professor and in 2009 he was appointed director of the Institute for Symbolic Computing (RISC). He is a member of various committees. His scientific editing activities include a .: Managing Editor of the Annals of Combinatorics (2000-2019), Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Symbolic Computation (JSC) and the Ramanujan Journal, Associate Editor of the Digital Library of Mathematical Functions (DLMF) and editor of the Springer book series Texts and Monographs in symbolic computation.
