Peter Pond Lake is a lake of glacial origin in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . It is located in north-west Saskatchewan in boreal forest and within the Canadian Shield . The lake is also in the catchment area of the Churchill River . Peter Pond Lake was on the fur trade route to Methye Portage , which connected eastern Canada with the Mackenzie River area. The lake is of a long oval shape with a main axis to the northwest. A peninsula, which extends almost to the west bank of the lake, divides the lake into Big Peter Pond (northern 2/3) and Little Peter Pond . On the east bank, Little Peter Pond is separated from Churchill Lake by a narrow isthmus .
The La Loche River , which drains Lac La Loche , flows from the north to Peter Pond Lake. The Dillon River flows into the lake at Dillon on the west bank of Peter Pond Lake. Peter Pond Lake is drained via the Kisis Channel at Buffalo Narrows to neighboring Churchill Lake.
Originally the two parts of the lake were called "Big Buffalo Lake" and "Little Buffalo Lake". The lake was later renamed after Peter Pond . The Highway 155 passes Buffalo Narrows and runs along the lake.
