Peter Purves
Peter Purves (born February 10, 1939 in Preston , Lancashire ) is a British actor and presenter .
life and career
Purve's father was a tailor. He later ran a hotel. From the age of ten, Purves went to boarding school. He did not attend a theater school, but learned to act in a repertoire theater group in the north of England , in Barrow-in-Furness . He got his first paid acting job at the age of 18. He played a sheriff in the play The Rainmaker . From 1966 to 1967 Purves played the role of Steven Taylor in the British television series Doctor Who . Steven Taylor was a companion of the first doctor ( William Hartnell ). From 1967 to 1978 Peter Purves presented the children's program Blue Peter . He then moderated other programs such as Stopwatch and the Kick Start motorcycle show . Since 2007 he has given his former Doctor Who character Steven Taylor the voice again. He speaks of Big Finish in the Doctor Who radio plays . Purves has also directed more than thirty pantomime pieces.
Private life
In the summer of 1962, Purves married screenwriter Gilly Fraser. In 1964 the couple had a son, and in 1969 they adopted a little Chinese girl from Macau . During his marriage, Purves had affairs with other well-known actors such as Jean Marsh , Adrienne Hill and his Blue Peter co-host Valerie Singleton . Fraser and Purves later split. In 1978 Purves played Baron Hardup in the play Cinderella. There he met his second wife, actress Kathryn Evans, who played Dandini. The couple now live in Suffolk with a total of six dogs.
