Adrienne Hill

Adrienne Hill (born July 22, 1937 in Plymouth , Devon , † October 6, 1997 in London ) was a British actress .

Life

Hill completed her acting training at Bristol Old Vic . She spent the first eight years as an actress in the theater. She performed with the Old Vic Company in London. After that she was on the road with a repertoire theater group. She was the understudy for Maggie Smith in the play Mary, Mary . It was there that she discovered Viktors Ritelis, Doctor Who’s production assistant . He was so impressed with her performance that he invited her to audition. She did not get this role, but was later cast as Katarina, a companion of the doctor . Katarina was the first companion to die on the series. She sacrificed herself in the series for the doctor.

In 1965, Hill appeared in two other BBC series, Compact and 199 Park Lane . Her role in 199 Park Lane was to become even more important in the coming season, but the series was canceled after only 18 episodes. Hill then went on to star on the long-running BBC radio series Wagoner's Walk . She played Myrna Podmore.

During her time in Doctor Who , Hill had an affair with her co-actor, Peter Purves . After Doctor Who she married, became pregnant and moved to Holland with her husband , as he had got a job there. They lived there for some time until they moved back to England and later to the United States . In the 1970s, Hill and her husband separated. Hill moved back to England with her two children. There she taught at a drama school. After five years she gave up this job to work again as an actress. Hill died of cancer on October 6, 1997.
