Peter Robinson (economist)

Peter Michael Robinson (born April 20, 1947 ) is a British mathematician and economist who excelled in particular in the field of econometrics .

Career, research and teaching

Robinson first studied at University College London , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 , before completing his studies at the London School of Economics with a Master of Science in 1969. In April 1973 he successfully completed his Ph.D. - Degree in Statistics from the Australian National University . From the summer of that year he taught and researched at Harvard University , initially as an assistant professor and from 1977 as an associate professor . In 1979 he moved to the University of British Columbia before he was appointed full professor in the mathematics faculty at the University of Surrey the following year . In 1994 he returned to the London School of Economics as Professor of Econometrics , where he took over the renowned Tooke Chair in 1995 . Between 1986 and 1992 Robinson was editor of the periodical Economica , and he was also co-editor-in-chief of the journals Econometric Theory , Econometrica , Journal of Econometrics and the Journal of Time Series Analysis .

Robinson is a Fellow of the Econometric Society , the Institute of Mathematical Statistics , the British Academy and the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the International Statistical Institute .

Robinson's work focuses on time series analysis , nonparametric statistics , semi-parametric regression, and spatial econometrics .
