Career

Saternus, who came to Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin in 1984 via the stations BFC Südring, BBC Südost and Hansa 07 Berlin , played two games in the 1985/86 season and scored one goal. In the home game on January 26, 1986 against Karlsruher SC, he scored the equalizer in the 78th minute to make it 1-1. He thus contributed to the successful season of Blau Weiß. With Leo Bunk, the club scored the top scorer in 26 goals and reached second place in the final table , behind FC 08 Homburg . So the promotion to the Bundesliga was perfect.

In the following season 1986/87 Saternus remained a supplementary player, he was used twice under coach Bernd Hoss and landed with his club on the bottom of the table and was relegated. Safe candidates in the attack were in the Bundesliga round Jörg Gaedke (32/1), Karlheinz Riedle (34/10) and Bodo Mattern (21/5). His two Bundesliga appearances took place on May 1 and 5, 1987 respectively, through substitutions in the games against Fortuna Düsseldorf (1: 2) and VfB Stuttgart (0: 2).

Saternus moved to Hertha BSC in the league in 1987/88 . There, under coach Jürgen Sundermann, he won the championship and got promoted. Saternus moved back to Blau-Weiß within Berlin, where he completed 15 games and scored three goals in the second division in the following two seasons, 1988/89 and 1989/90. In 1990 he moved to Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt for three rounds , then from 1993 to 1995 to Spandauer SV , before his playing career ended in 1995 at VfB Lichterfelde .
