Peter Sengelaub
Peter Sengelaub (* around 1558 in Martinroda ; † May 1622 in Coburg ) was a painter and master builder in the Franconian - Thuringian region.
Live and act
Peter Sengelaub was probably born in Martinroda around 1558. He came to Coburg around 1590 and at the latest in 1592 he accepted a position as court painter to Duke Johann Casimir . Here he painted, among other things, portraits of his client. From the beginning of the 15th century Sengelaub also worked as a Princely Saxon master builder in Coburg. Its three Renaissance buildings in Coburg, the government chancellery , the Casimirianum high school and the armory have shaped the cityscape since then . In addition, he served in Coburg alterations to the Callenberg Castle , at the Veste Coburg and in Waltershausen at Castle Tenneberg . From around 1608 Sengelaub also worked for the Counts of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . In particular, he planned and supervised the new construction of the town church in Sondershausen from 1609 to 1618 .
