Peter Shannon

Peter James Shannon (* 1949 in Melbourne ) is an Australian diplomat and ambassador to Austria .

Life

Peter Shannon studied in Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws. Shannon speaks French (besides English) as well as Bislama , a Pacific Creole language . He is married and has a son.

Before his appointment as Ambassador to Vienna (July 2006), Shannon held a number of offices in Canberra , including director of the Arms Trade and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Control Section at the Australian Foreign Office (2002-2005).

Abroad, Shannon was, among other things, envoy to the Australian embassy in Paris and to UNESCO (1996–1999), as well as high commissioner in Vanuatu (1992–1996).
