Peter Struycken (born January 5, 1939 in The Hague ) is a Dutch digital artist and light artist .

life and work

Peter Struycken studied from 1957 to 1962 at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. Peter Struycken has been working with the computer as a tool to create works of art since 1969 and is therefore one of the first in the Netherlands. From 1964 to 1976 he was a founding member and head of the Monumentaal Nieuwe Stijl / Omgevingskunst course at the Art Academy in Arnhem . As a visiting lecturer, he taught at various Dutch art schools.

Drawings, paintings, sculptures, light art, and installations are part of the work of Peter Struycken. Some panoramic photos of his monumental works were taken by his brother, the actor Carel Struycken . Peter Struycken has created free and commissioned works, around a hundred of them in public spaces. In 1981 he designed a stamp with the face of Queen Beatrix , shown as dots .

His best-known work is “Zonder Titel / Untitled” (1993) with the nickname “Lichtarkade”, under the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut at the Museumpark in the center of Rotterdam, is 170 m long. The “light sculpture” changes the color palette of the lighting every 10 minutes using computer-controlled fluorescent lamps .
