Peter Thiel (born October 15, 1943 in Klingenthal ) is a German cross-country skier . He took part in the 1968 Winter Olympics for the GDR and started working for SC Dynamo Klingenthal while he was active .

Career

At the GDR ski championships in 1965 , he celebrated his first national successes. Over the 50 kilometers he won the bronze medal behind Kurt Albrecht and Gerhard Lorenz and together with the SC Dynamo Klingenthal relay he won the silver medal in the relay race.

He was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR for the 1968 Winter Olympics in the French city of Grenoble and was allowed to start there over the 15 kilometers and in the relay. Over the 15 kilometers he finished 37th and together with Gerhard Grimmer , Axel Lesser and Gert-Dietmar Klause he finished seventh in the relay race. At the GDR ski championships in 1968 , which took place after the Olympic Games, he took fourth place over the 15 kilometers behind Gert-Dietmar Klause, Axel Lesser and Dieter Speer . Over the 30 kilometers he also missed a medal by finishing fifth. In contrast, he was able to win the German championship title in the relay competition together with Günther Stützner , Peter Lorenz and Gert-Dietmar Klause.
