Peter Waldmann

Peter Waldmann (born March 22, 1937 in Meiningen ) is a German lawyer , sociologist and expert on violence and terrorism .

Peter Waldmann studied law and social sciences at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and in Paris. After the first state examination in law, he was awarded a Dr. iur. and in 1967 he passed his second state examination in law. From 1966 to 1973 he was an assistant at the Sociological Institute of Saarland University , and in 1973 he received his habilitation in sociology with a thesis on Argentine Peronism . From 1975 to 2002 Waldmann was full professor of sociology at the Philosophical Faculty I of the University of Augsburg (Bavaria) and also dealt with Latin American studies (research stay from 1969 to 1970 in Argentina; membership in the Academia Nacional de la Historia de la República Argentina) .

Since his retirement, Waldmann has continued to publish articles and books on his main areas of focus on the sociology of violence and terrorism analysis. As a university lecturer, he also supervised relevant qualification texts ( dissertations and habilitation theses ).

Peter Waldmann Terrorism analyzes deal with both general and special aspects of terrorism as a global phenomenon of modernity: on the one hand, ´modern´ terrorism appears primarily as a communication phenomenon; on the other hand, and more specifically, as a strategically planned violence against an underground political order.

From 1997 to 2005 he was a member of the scientific advisory board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . He was also visiting professor in Latin America, Spain, Harvard and Bern.
