For a long time the company was based in Ettlingen . The founder, namesake and managing director was Andreas Waibel.

Company history

Waibel offered both ready-made computers and computers that could be configured on request. Like the American model Dell , Waibel placed multi-page advertisements in almost all PC magazines. The order process was carried out over the Internet or by telephone. Waibel also operated “showrooms” in Berlin , Stuttgart and Ettlingen. In these rooms, the customer could find out about the computers and have them configured for his needs.

The range included computers with AMD and Intel processors, which had typical Waibel names, e.g. B. Schwabenpfeil, Rheinblitz, Wannseesprinter, Bayernkurier, Wannseeblitz, IC-Q Server. In Schwabenpfeil and Rheinblitz is the name of contemporary express trains of Deutsche Bahn . Waibel also offered notebooks called Turbobooks . The respective name has been given a specific addition, which u. a. declared the area of application. So there was B. a Wannseesprinter Video for video editing.

As one of the first manufacturers, Waibel was able to introduce a 1 GHz computer (Waibel Wannseesprinter cool) in 2000. Although there was no 1GHz performance processors for desktop computer at that time, succeeded Waibel, AMD Athlon CPUs with a cooling solution of Kryotech to overclock. The CPU was encapsulated and cooled to minus 46 ° C. The exclusivity of this model corresponded to the price, which amounted to approx. 10,000 DM .

In 2001 Waibel hit the headlines with a new idea, so the company offered computers with a used operating system on request. Waibel bought unused Windows licenses for this and sold them together with the new Waibel PC for a lower price than a new license from Microsoft. Waibel also offered to convert or upgrade PCs from other manufacturers. The computer was picked up from the customer by a logistics company and sent back to the customer after the conversion.

The Waibel computers received more than 200 awards from the trade press, and according to IDG Brand Awareness 1999 , the company was one of the manufacturers with the highest customer satisfaction. At times the company planned to transform the corporate form into a stock corporation.

insolvency

On January 9, 2003, Waibel applied to the Karlsruhe District Court to initiate insolvency proceedings. The reasons for this have not been made public.
