Peter Weichhart

Peter Weichhart (born February 21, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian geographer and regional researcher who is best known for his writings on social geography .

He received his doctorate in 1973 after studying geography , German and philosophy at the University of Salzburg . Together with Benno Werlen , he has been one of the most influential German-speaking social geographers since 1980. In his current writings, Weichhart deals with the lines of development in social geography. Weichhart was professor of human geography at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna from 2000 to 2012 . Since 2012 he has been a Univ.-Prof. i. Usually scientifically active.
