Peter Wilhelm Cornils (born December 24, 1793 in Tating , † April 12, 1844 in Garding ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Peter Wilhelm Cornils was the son of the landless kätner and spice dealer Wilhelm Cornils (1752 or 1753-1828) and his wife Anna Sophia, née Wil (l) ms (1755 or 1756-1822). On October 23, 1813, he began studying law at the University of Kiel , which he completed on October 15, 1818 at the Gottorf Higher Court with the legal examination. He passed the test with the "second character" with distinction. The Chancellor of the Duchy of Schleswig particularly praised his knowledge of Danish.

On October 23, 1818, Cornils applied to be admitted as a lower court advocate for Schleswig and Holstein. On November 17, 1818, as Candidat Juris, he received the appointment of lower court attorney in the Duchy of Holstein. In the same year he married Amalia Christiane Christine Baxmeier (also Amalia Christine Caroline or Amalia Christine Carstine or Amalia Christiane Carstens). Together they had three sons and eight daughters.

On December 24, 1818, Cornils acquired a seal. This shows a heart on a coat of arms, which is pierced by an arrow from top right to bottom left. A crown can be seen above the heart. At the top left above the heart is a nettle leaf. This is apparently fixed to the lower right by a rod in the heart.

On September 22, 1824, Cornils applied from Garding , where he had lived since 1823, to be promoted to higher and regional court advocate. He received the appointment for the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein on October 26, 1824.

Importance as a lawyer

Cornils dealt in detail with the laws of the Eiderstedt region and published extensively on this. Some of these were basic works. In areas where the old Eiderstedter land law continued to exist as customary law , his writings were still used in the middle of the 20th century.
