Peter Wilhelm Lund (born June 14, 1801 in Copenhagen , † May 25, 1880 in Lagoa Santa , Brazil) was a Danish zoologist and paleontologist. He is considered the father of Brazilian paleontology .

Lund studied medicine in Copenhagen and received his doctorate in 1829 from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, which was then still in Denmark . From 1833 he began collecting fossils in Brazil . In 1835 he discovered limestone caves with rich finds in the area of Lagoa Santa . Securing and determining this became his life's work. The place named after him Dr. Lund reminds us.

In 1843 he discovered fossilized human remains over 10,000 years old and thus sparked a discussion about the settlement of South America.
