Peter Winker

Peter Winker (* 1965 in Stuttgart ) is a German econometrician and university professor .

Life

Winker studied mathematics and economics at the Universities of Konstanz and Paris VI from 1984 to 1991 and initially graduated as a qualified mathematician . Then until 1997 he was a research assistant with Wolfgang Franz at the University of Konstanz. His doctorate as Dr. rer. pole. took place there in 1991 with the dissertation credit rationing on the market for corporate loans in the FRG . In 1997, Winker Franz followed to the University of Mannheim where he worked as a research assistant until 2001 . There he completed his habilitation in 2000 with the thesis Optimization Heuristics in Econometrics: Applications of Threshold Accepting .

From 2001 to 2002 Winker was Associate Professor for Economics and Quantitative Methods at the International University in Germany in Bruchsal . In 2002 he accepted a call to the interdisciplinary political science faculty at the University of Erfurt , where he held the chair of econometrics .

In 2006 he went to the Justus Liebig University in Gießen where he accepted a professorship for statistics and econometrics. From April 2012 to April 2018 he was also Vice President for Scientific Infrastructure at the University of Giessen.

Research priorities

Winker's research areas include empirical macroeconomics , heuristic optimization in econometrics and statistics, and econometric analysis of educational decisions and educational success . He also deals with the Monte Carlo method and the quasi Monte Carlo method.
