Jacobs Hill (officially Jacob Hill ) is a 173 acres (0.7 km² ) nature reserve around the 1,063 ft (324 m ) high mountain of the same name near Royalston in the state of Massachusetts in the United States , which is organized by The Trustees of reservations is managed.
Protected area
In the reserve, approximately 2 mi (3.2 km ) of hiking trails run along the ridge line of Jacobs Hill through a forest covered with birch , maple , ash and beech trees and connect two lookout points. On the path, which also leads past the Spirit Falls waterfall , good impressions of Tully Mountain , Mount Grace and the Berkshire Mountains can be gained. Below the trail are Long Pond and the eastern branch of the Tully River , which slowly flows towards Tully Lake .
At the eastern end of the reserve is the source of the Spirit Falls with Lake Little Pond . It is a classic swamp in which black spruce and East American larch form concentric rings around an open body of water and a large number of peat moss . If you cross the river at the waterfall, you come to an area called The Ledges . A fork off the trail connects it to the 22 mi (35.4 km) long Tully Trail .
The basis for the creation of the protected area was made possible by an anonymous donation, with the help of which the trustees were able to acquire the first partial areas in 1975. Additional purchases were made in 1978 and 1994.
