Elliott Laurel is a 33 acres (13.4 hectares ) large nature reserve near the town of Phillipston in the state of Massachusetts of the United States , which by the organization The Trustees of Reservations is managed. It was named after the mountain laurel plant , a naturally occurring species of laurel rose in the eastern United States, which occurs in large quantities there .
Protected area
The area of today's protected area was originally used as a pasture area, but today consists largely of forest areas through which some old stone walls run. An approximately 1 mi (1.6 km ) long footpath leads across an open field up to a rocky hill, from which a good overview of the area is possible. The path also leads through a Weymouth pine and hemlock forest to a swamp of red maple trees. On the way back you can see pines , the roots of which are densely overgrown with the eponymous plant Mountain Laurel .
The protected area was established by the trustees on the basis of a donation in 1941. Further parts could be purchased in 1975.
