Cormier Woods is a 175  acre (0.7  km² ) nature reserve near the city of Uxbridge in the state of Massachusetts in the United States and is administered by The Trustees of Reservations .

Protected area

The history of the rustic farm can be traced back to the 1700s. Today the area in which the homestead is located represents three centuries of agriculture . While the focus in the mid-18th century was on agriculture to provide a livelihood for the descendants of the first settlers, a major transformation began just 50 years later in the first industrial center of the United States, which is now the origin of the United States Industrial Revolution under the name Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor and stretching from Worcester to Providence .

Today visitors can enjoy 3  mi (4.8  km ) of hiking trails that run across the farm's property and through the adjacent forests and wetlands. Like almost everywhere in New England , oak , birch and maple dominate here ; there is also an area 80 ft (24.4  m ) to 100 ft (30.5 m) tall Weymouth pines on the northwestern boundary of the sanctuary named after James Cormier  . The area provides a habitat for salamanders , wood frogs , hut warblers , warblers and thrushes .
