Peter de Weerth (born December 29, 1767 in Elberfeld (today a district of Wuppertal ); † August 8, 1855 there ) was an electoral Palatine councilor , merchant and landowner.

Life

Peter de Weerth was the son of Elberfeld mayor Werner de Weerth (1741–1799) and his wife Johanna Charlotta von Carnap (1744–1768), who died three days after the birth of their only son. His grandfather Peter de Weerth (1694–1763) was also mayor of Elberfeld. De Weerth married Elisabeth Gertrud Wülfing (1774–1829) in 1796, the daughter of Elberfeld's mayor Johann Jakob Wülfing .

De Weerth, who was considered the richest merchant in Elberfeld, became a councilor in Elberfeld for the first time in 1798. It was again in 1803 and 1805. In 1799 and 1803 he was proposed as mayor, but not elected. He was the owner of the Varresbeck manor and many other possessions, especially on the Lower Rhine. Because of his services to the common good, he was awarded the title of Elector Palatine Commerzienrat.

In 1802 he laid out the pleasure garden on Brill , today the Deweerth'scher garden .
