Petermann Etterlin (* ca. 1430 / 40 , † ca. 1509 ) was a Swiss chronicler .

The son of Lucerne town clerk Egloff Etterlin took part in military campaigns in the 1460s and 1470s (especially in the context of the Burgundian Wars ). Later he owned a wine tavern, among other things. After 1476 he held various offices in Lucerne, among others he was assistant clerk in 1492, bread shiver in 1493 , and from 1495 court clerk.

In the years 1505–1507 he wrote a chronicle, which in 1507, illustrated with woodcuts, was printed as the first chronicle of the Swiss Confederation in Basel . It remained the only comprehensive chronicle of the Swiss Confederation until 1548, the year Johannes Stumpf's chronicle was published.
