Petit Rhône
The Petit Rhône (German Little Rhone ) is a tributary of the Rhone in the mouth area.
To the north of Arles , the Petit Rhône splits off in a westerly direction from the Rhône, which continues to flow as the main arm ( Grand Rhône ) in a south-easterly direction. Both arms form the largest river delta in Europe and include the Camargue . The Petit Rhône flows into the Golfe-de-Beauduc of the Mediterranean at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer after about 60 kilometers of the river .
shipping
The upper section of the Petit Rhône between Arles and Saint-Gilles has been developed for inland navigation . The Canal de Saint-Gilles enables a connection with the Canal du Rhône à Sète and thus allows shipping with the city of Sète and further over the Canal du Midi and the Canal latéral à la Garonne to the Atlantic Ocean . Today, however, the canal is of hardly any economic importance, but is mainly used by sports enthusiasts and houseboats .
The Bac du Sauvage cable ferry crosses the Petit Rhône in its lower part ( department road 85 near Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer ).
