Petra Articus
M. Petra Articus OCist (born May 8, 1948 in Husum , maiden name Barbara Articus ) is a German nun . She is the abbess of the Seligenthal Cistercian abbey in Landshut.
Barbara Articus first grew up in Husum. After the early death of her father, the mother and the three children moved back to their homeland in Lower Bavaria. Articus attended the school of the English Misses in Deggendorf . After graduating from high school, she trained as a kindergarten teacher in Seligenthal and then worked as an educator at the boarding school of the Seligenthal School Foundation.
In 1969 she entered Seligenthal Abbey and made her profession on February 2, 1971 . After the resignation of the former abbess Assumpta Schenkl , who rebuilt the Helfta monastery with a group of sisters , Sr. Petra Articus was elected 43rd abbess of Seligenthal abbey on July 24, 1999. On October 2, 1999, she received the consecration of the abbess from the then Abbot General of the Cistercians, Fr. Maurus Esteva . Her motto is: Joy in God is our strength. (Neh 8, 10).
