history

Organ by Johann Diepenbrock (1896)

The place Ostrhauderfehn came into being after five merchants had sent an application to King Friedrich II of Prussia in 1765 . They asked for the raised bog area in the north of Overledingerland to be made available in order to create a new fen here . On April 19, 1769 , they received approval for the project that had already begun. Ecclesiastically, the first settlers of the then so-called Rhauder Osterfehn as well as the Rhauder Westerfehn belonged to Rhaude , before the parish Westrhauderfehn was founded in 1829, to which Ostrhauderfehn was assigned. In 1833 a cemetery was laid out in Ostrhauderfehn, and in 1889 a separate parish was founded.

The congregation had to wait a few years for its own place of worship. It was not until 1892 that the community was able to acquire suitable land at the intersection of 1. Ostwieke and 2. Süderwieke . A little later the construction of a pastory began and finally, from 1894, the construction of the church. The construction was evidently under the direction of the Hanover consitorial master builder Conrad Wilhelm Hase and therefore shows a clear similarity in the design of the exterior facade and the interior design with the Christ Church (Hollen) and numerous churches in the Hanover area, in the Schaumburger Land and the Lüneburg Heath , so z. B. with the St. Jakobi Church in Wietzendorf or the St. Nicolai Church (Hagenburg) . The construction costs were financed by a gift of grace from Emperor Wilhelm II as well as donations, collections, a loan and a house collection carried out throughout East Friesland. In November 1896, the church was finally consecrated after two years of construction.

During the Second World War , the church was badly damaged when German soldiers blew up the tower in April 1945. The ship was also affected. Only in 1948 could services be celebrated here again. In 1955 the tower was rebuilt and given a new carillon. In 1992 the church was extensively renovated and after completion it was named after the Apostle Peter .
