Heinrich Siemes (born August 15, 1929 in Duisburg ) is a German mineralogist who taught as a university professor at RWTH Aachen University from 1971 to 1995 .

Life

After graduating from the Fichte School in Krefeld , Heinrich Siemes completed a one-year internship as a mining enthusiast in 1951 . From 1952 to 1957 he studied the subject mining at the RWTH Aachen and was then seven months Steiger in Eschweiler mine association . From December 15, 1957, he was initially a scientific employee and later a senior engineer at the chair for mineralogy and deposit theory at RWTH. There he received his doctorate in 1961 with a thesis on the deformation and recrystallization behavior of lead galena with Doris Schachner . In 1967 he completed his habilitation in the subject of mineralogy with the thesis Experimental compression deformation of polycrystalline lead galena: Determination of the strength properties under all-round pressure between 1 and 5000 bar as well as X-ray examination of the textures . On April 8, 1971, Siemes was appointed to the newly created professorship for Mineralogy and Structural Science at RWTH Aachen University, which he held until his retirement in 1995.

Scientific work

The focus of the scientific work is on investigations into structural changes in ore minerals . For this purpose, the natural textures of ore minerals such as galena or hematite were compared with the textures of experimentally deformed minerals. In addition, Siemes also deals with applied geostatistics for estimating recoverable reserves in ore deposits . Together with Hikmet Akin , he published the textbook Practical Geostatistics in 1988 .
