Pfaffing is a hamlet near Gelbenholzen and is part of the town of Fürstenfeldbruck in Upper Bavaria . Up until the 19th century, his church was the mother parish of surrounding towns such as Fürstenfeldbruck, Schöngeising and Biburg .

history

In the 8th century, a monk pastor who was sent by the Benedictine monastery of Schlehdorf am Kochelsee (according to a tradition from later times) settled on the square . This tradition is also confirmed by the place name. Places with the suffix -ing date from the 6th – 8th centuries. Century, that is the beginning time after the Bavarian conquest of the land. Pfaffing means 'with the people of the priest (pastor)'.

The settlement was built on a branch line of the road from Salzburg to Augsburg in a small depression on the Schwarzer Graben brook . In the immediate vicinity of the church is a burial ground from an unknown time. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists this ground monument under monument number D-1-7833-0118.

In 1098 and 1137 the place was first mentioned as Phaphingen in documents. In 1270 the hamlet and church are transferred to the Fürstenfeld monastery , founded in 1263, by the Cistercians , the parish follows in 1271. In the 15th century, Pfaffing consisted of only two properties, which the monastery operated independently as the brothers' farms. Nevertheless, the parish services were not transferred to today's Fürstenfeldbruck until 1675. It was not until 1806 that the church lost its status as a parish church .

St. Stephen Church

St. Stephan in Pfaffing

A previous church, one of the oldest churches in the area, presumably stood on the site of today's church. A church building is only documented around 1140 when the Pfaffingen patronage of St. Stephan was first mentioned: “iuxta pontem sancti Stephani”. Today's late Gothic St. Stephan building with saddle tower dates from the 15th century. The church was later redesigned in baroque style and regotified again around 1861/62. During the secularization , the church was saved from demolition in 1806. Restored 1982–85.

On the right wall there is a crucifix from 1520/30 and a copy of the Blutenburg Madonna . Only one painting of Saint Stephen has survived from the Baroque period . The ceiling frescoes and two stained glass in the choir date from 1862.
