Church of St. Peter and Paul Täuffelen

The parish center St. Peter and Paul in Täuffelen has been one of the four centers of the new regional Roman Catholic parish Seeland-Lyss since May 2017, alongside the parish center St. Maria (Ins) , Mary's birth (Lyss) and the parish center St. Katharina (Büren on the Aare) .

History and parish structure

On May 13, 2017, Bishop Felix Gmür established the pastoral area of Seeland and Täuffelen became part of the newly circumscribed parish of Seeland-Lyss as a subsidiary of Ins . The catchment area of the parish center includes the places Epsach , Hagneck , Mörigen , and Täuffelen-Gerolfingen .

Around 1970 the number of Catholics in the catchment area was around 400. For two decades the theater hall of a restaurant in Gerolfingen was used for Catholic services. A church center in Täuffelen was planned to provide better care for the faithful. Thanks to collection campaigns and donations, the building of the church became possible. According to the plans of «atelier 64» - G. u. H. Götschi-Holenstein began on May 17, 1971 with the construction at Bodenweg 9. After a construction period of fifteen months, the building, now known as the St. Peter and Paul Church Center, was completed and inaugurated by Bishop Anton Hänggi .

Building description

Cat. Church of Täuffelen, interior

From the outside, only the low bell tower with the cross inserted across the corner points to a sacred building. The cornerstone designed by Peter Travaglini is embedded in the corner of the tower . The relief shows on the one hand the year 1971 and symbolically the key and the sword as attributes of the patronage apostle. The only bell in the tower was cast by the H. Rüetschi foundry in Aarau in 1972. It weighs 800 kilograms and has a f sharp sound. The inscriptions designed by Travaglini are New Testament quotations: Ephesians 3:21 and Galatians 1:18. The entrance to the building is in the lower tower area. A corridor opens up the side rooms and the church.

The rear wall of the altar area was designed by Peter Travaglini with the help of Pierino Selmont. The simple altar table is an ecumenical gesture and a gift from the Reformed parish. The tabernacle, cross, ambo, candlestick and the holy water vessel are decorated with simple copper and enamel plates. The equipment is supplemented by a small electronic organ. The surrounding ribbon of windows below the ceiling is decorated with colored glass painting by Pascal Engeler, Teufen. Thanks to the free-standing chairs with partitions, the room can be divided as required, which enables flexible use.
