The parish church of Andau is a Roman Catholic church in the market town of Andau in the Neusiedl am See district in Burgenland . The church consecrated to St. Nicholas belongs to the dean's office in Frauenkirchen in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is considered to be the first modern church in Burgenland and is a listed building .

Building history

The parish church was built as a chapel in 1747, an extension by Peter Koch took place from 1829 to 1831, including the building of the facade tower. In 1931 there was an extension on the northwest side and the erection of two round towers on the sides of the apse by Karl Holey .

Furnishing

The huge ceiling painting depicts the Last Judgment , painted by Otto von Landwehr, and was completed in 1951. The furniture dates from 1931 and the two angel statues on the high altar were created by Wilhelm Bormann (1885–1938).
