Pierre-François Bienaymé
Pierre-François Bienaymé (born October 26, 1737 in Montbard in Burgundy, † February 6, 1806 in Metz ) was Bishop of Metz .
He was the nephew of General Jean-Andoche Junot . After studying theology and law in Paris , he received a degree in theology in 1760 and was appointed chaplain in his hometown. After being appointed canon of Evreux Cathedral , he was elected Commendatarabb of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Venant in Touraine in 1779 .
After the 1801 Concordat was signed , all French bishops were asked to resign. Despite the refusal of his predecessor, Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval , to resign, Bienaymé was appointed Bishop of Metz on April 11, 1802. On May 4, 1802 followed by the papal confirmation, so he on May 9, 1802 by the Archbishop of Rouen , Etienne-Hubert Cardinal de Cambacérès , bishop ordained was. He died just four years later. He was acquainted with the naturalists Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon and Louis Jean-Marie Daubenton , who also came from Montbard, and has emerged as an author of scientific publications.
