history
A church was mentioned in a document in 1299, but it is assumed that the foundation goes back to St. Bishop Rupert of Salzburg and the year 695, because in 777 the Dietach Foundation and a St. Peter's Chapel are already mentioned.
The Gothic church was restored in 1687 and partly baroque, and in 1899 it was regothic. The single-nave, five-bay nave had two new west bays, the three east bays had a groin vault. The one-bay choir with a five-eighth closure had keystones and consoles from 1687. The furnishings were neo-Gothic, the font Gothic. The tower in the southern choir corner had a baroque onion helmet until 1899, today it has an eight-sided attachment with a pointed helmet.
Due to the poor structural condition of the church and the larger space requirement due to the increased number of inhabitants in Dietach, the old church - except for the tower - was demolished in 1980 and replaced by a new building according to plans by Anton Zemann , which was commissioned by Bishop Maximilian in 1982 Aichern was consecrated. The chancel was designed by the sculptor Peter Dimmel . The colored glass windows created by the Schlierbach stained glass factory come from Rudolf Kolbitsch .
