The Roman Catholic parish church Feldkirch-Altenstadt is located in the Altenstadt district of the municipality of Feldkirch in the Feldkirch district in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to Saints Pancras and Zenon of Verona and belongs to the Feldkirch dean's office in the Feldkirch diocese . The building is a listed building .

history

The church was named around 842 "ad Feldkirchun" and 909 with "Feldkiricha", the church was first documented in 896. Initially a branch of the parish church Rankweil-St. Peter became the parish church in the early 15th century. There were several conversions and extensions, in 1813 the choir, 1825/1826 the tower, as in 1884/1886 an extension according to plans by the architect Clemens Steiner with the builder Fidel Kröner . In 1963/1964 again expanded and restored, the church was rededicated in 1964.

Church exterior

The church shows itself without a plastic structure with a nave and choir with a three-eighth end and a south tower. To the south of the tower is a two-storey sacristy, to the north of the choir is the nun's choir, which is connected to the Dominican convent in Feldkirch with a connecting wing. To the south is the church at the cemetery. The nave has four arched windows, the gable front has a gable risalit and a circular window. The tower with arched sound windows has a gable-top helmet. The connecting passage to the monastery has two arched windows on the upper floor and a portal to the baptistery on the first floor.

Church interior

A raised five-eighth end choir with a flat ceiling is attached to the nave with a flat wooden ceiling with a recessed round choir arch. On the north side of the choir is a round arch arcade to the nuns choir with rectangular light slots and a gallery. On the left in the nave is an arched opening with the organ and underneath the connecting opening to the baptistery. In the west of the nave there is a newer gallery on two pillars.

The fresco Jesus surrounded by Peter and Paul, Mary and John the Baptist, Pankratius, Dominikus and Katharina on the choir wall and the stained glass of Burning Bush in the gate frame, Enthroned Mary with Child in the Rossete, Creation of the Cosmos, Adoration of the Magi, Sacrifice of Abraham , Samaritan woman at Jacob's fountain, Noah's ark, the awakening of Lazarus, symbols of baptism and the Eucharist were painted by the painter Martin Häusle in 1964 .

Furnishing

The altar was created in 1964 by the sculptor Herbert Albrecht .

The organ from 1864 was built by Alois Schönach and was renewed in 1981 by Rieger Orgelbau .

Parish center

The Altenstadt parish house, built in 1975/1976, was reopened in January 2013 after a renovation.
