The parish church of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic church in the municipality of Fiss in the Landeck district in Tyrol . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was mentioned in a document in 1310. 1448 was a consecration. In 1500 there was a renovation or a new building. In the early 18th century the church was redesigned in Baroque style. The church was elevated to a parish church in 1891. In 1956 a renovation took place.

architecture

The late Gothic church with a north tower is surrounded by a cemetery on the south side. The nave with a high base band has late Gothic triangular pilaster strips. On the facade there are baroque murals and stations of the cross from around 1757. The choir has moved in. The two-storey sacristy was added to the east. The tower with a bell-shaped, curved pointed helmet shows the designations 1686, 1825, 1879, 1935 on the facade and has a corner squaring in the plaster. Above a profiled cornice, the tower has an octagonal bell storey with late Gothic two-part tracery windows and sloping arches in the fascia walls.

The four-bay nave and the choir with a deep bay and a three-sided end with a barrel vault was given a baroque style with stucco cladding. In the choir there are late Gothic portals to the sacristy and the tower. The wooden gallery dates from the first half of the 19th century. Ceiling pictures with four baroque medallions were exposed in 1958 and supplemented with paintings by Norbert Strolz .

Furnishing

The baroque high altar from 1720 with column structure, a protruding middle section and curved entablature, with rich acanthus carvings, was restored in 1970. The altarpiece Mariaglorie was painted by the painter Franz Lazier around 1722. The figures Sebastian and Georg and in the extract Trinity were created by the sculptor Andreas Kölle . The left side altar shows the image of the Crucifixion of Laucasus and the right side altar shows the image of the birth of Christ of Laucasus.

The pulpit from 1718 with evangelist symbols and angels by Andreas Kölle has a richly decorated sound cover. There are two console figures of Saints John the Baptist and Sebastian from the fourth half of the 18th century and a group of guardian angels from the fourth quarter of the 18th century. There is a small Nazarene saint grave. A canvas painting of St. Sebastian von Johann Kärle from 1877 is in custody.

The organ was built by Karl Reinisch in 1912 . A bell was cast by Hans Christof Löffler in 1581. A bell was cast by Johannes Schirmeister in 1694.
