history

The core of the late Romanesque building dates from the 13th century. The Gothic choir was built around 1400. The parish is first mentioned in a document in 1345. After severe fire damage in 1683, the church was redesigned in Baroque style in 1695 . In 1784 the parish was rebuilt and incorporated into Melk Abbey . In 1961 Ernst Arthofer and Karl Burian extended the church to the west with a building that had a major impact on today's appearance.

Church building

Church exterior

The church has a mighty rectangular nave with a dominant west facade. Above the main portal is a large arched window and a high triangular gable . The long sides are structured by high glass windows concentrated in the middle. Adjoining this is the late Romanesque nave with a Gothic polygonal choir, which has been preserved except for the westernmost yoke. Above is the octagonal church tower with a high pointed spire. On the sides of the nave, the remains of the late Romanesque arched windows and the early Gothic pointed arched windows can be seen below the baroque arched windows in the exposed quarry stone masonry.

Church interior

The church has a wide hall-like nave with a flat ceiling. This is followed by the former baroque nave, which is also flat-roofed, and the essentially Gothic choir with a 5/8 end. Both the old nave and the Gothic choir are now used as a presbytery . The baroque sacristy connects to the north.

Furnishing

The furnishings come from the construction period in 1961. The altar was designed by the artist Susanna C. Polac . The monumental crucifix was made by Karl Nieschlag . Fred Gillesberger created the font . The glass painting in the baptistery is by Hans Zeiler .

organ

The organ dates from 1962 by Gregor Hradetzky .
