The Roman Catholic parish church of Göttlesbrunn stands at the east end of the village of Göttlesbrunn in the municipality of Göttlesbrunn-Arbesthal in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria . The parish church Philippus und Jakobus belongs to the deanery of Bruck an der Leitha in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building .

history

The former fortified church (1159) as a branch church of Bruck an der Leitha was incorporated into St. Pölten Monastery until 1784 . The parish rights were mentioned in a document in 1248. The cemetery with a defensive wall was mentioned in a document in 1298. The church was finally raised to a parish church in 1740. After a fire (1873) the former rectangular choir was demolished and rebuilt in 1874. The square near the parish church was named after the former pastor Bruno Heinrich (1908–1992) on Abbot-Bruno-Heinrich-Platz.

architecture

The church stands at the east end of the village of Göttlesbrunn on an artificial platform and was initially surrounded by a cemetery and a defensive wall. The church building on a cross plan with a Romanesque nave and a transept-like eastward extension and a choir from 1874 has a west tower.

Furnishing

The popular altar (1961) and a crucifix (1964) were designed by the sculptor Heribert Mader .
