The 687 m high Jbel Lakhdar or Jbel Xhedar ( Arabic جبل لخضر, German: 'Green Mountain') in the Moroccan region of Marrakech-Safi is considered by geologists to be the northwestern foothills of the Atlas Mountains . Its summit lies exactly on the border between the provinces of El Jadida and Rehamna and thus also marks the border between the regions of Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi.
location
The approximately 25 km long and between 500 and 700 m high mountain range of the Jbel Lakhdar is located in the southeast of the historical region Doukkala about halfway between the cities of El Jadida in the north and Marrakech in the south and between the cities of Sidi Bennour in the Northwest and Ben Guerir in the southeast.
Ascent
The best way to climb the mountain is from Sidi Bennour. Since there are only a few slopes, the ascent from the nearest village Khemis Ksiba takes about 2 hours. While the slopes of the mountain are overgrown, the summit is littered with rocks. On clear, but mostly windy days, the view extends to the Atlantic in the west or the peaks of the High Atlas in the southeast.
