The Roman Catholic parish church Gorentschach in the village of St. Nikolai in the municipality of Ruden is consecrated to St. Nicholas . In 1091 the “Gorensing” estate with the church belonging to it was donated to the newly founded St. Paul Abbey in Lavanttal , which operated silver mines nearby. Later the church came to Griffen Abbey and belonged to St. Agnes near Völkermarkt . It was not until the 1780s that the church became an independent parish.

Building description

The church is a small, simple structure. The Gothic tower on the south side of the choir has profiled twin windows in the bell storey and is crowned by a pointed roof. A bell was cast by Anton Cosmatschin in 1705. Above the arched portal in the west there is a coat of arms stone from 1642. The nave, which was extended to the west during the renovation in 1827, has a flat roof. The west gallery, renovated in 2010, is accessible from the outside from the south. A round arched triumphal arch connects the nave and the baroque barrel-vaulted choir with a three-eighth end. The sacristy on the tower ground floor has a groin vault .

Between the columns are the statues of the apostles Peter and Paul , through the sacrifice of portals that of the apostle John and St. Sebastian . Saint Agnes can be seen on a cloud in the niche. The sculptures of Saints Florian and Laurentius are placed on pedestals to the side .

The left side altar bears a man of Sorrows in the middle niche and to the side the Apostle Bartholomew and a saint without attributes. The right side altar, created around 1720/1730, shows the teaching of Mary on the altar sheet and a plastic representation of the mercy seat in the essay .
