Building description

The core of the Romanesque choir tower church dates from the second third of the 13th century. The single-nave nave was converted into a three-nave hall at the beginning of the 16th century. The original nave was divided into a central nave and a north aisle and the south aisle was rebuilt. The church underwent further changes in the 18th and 19th centuries and after 1889. The choir tower and probably the north nave wall have been preserved from the Romanesque building. The Romanesque twin windows on the third floor of the tower were walled up, the Gothic bell floor, the pointed pyramid helmet and the buttresses of the tower date from the 14th century. The three naves of the nave were originally under a common gable roof , after 1889 the gable walls above the central nave were raised and the aisles were provided with pent roofs. Late Gothic buttresses support the south side of the nave. The sacristy is added to the south of the tower. The western porch was built in 1895. A late Gothic west portal with a keel arch leads into the south aisle.

Inside, pointed arched beveled dividing arches open the central nave to the aisles. The barrel vault with stitch caps was built in the 18th or 19th century. The two-axis west gallery from 1816 only includes the central nave. The profiled, Gothic triumphal arch stands in the original central axis of the church. The transverse rectangular choir bay has a ribbed vault from the early 14th century and Gothic tracery windows . The richly framed, late Gothic sacrament niche with rosette grille shows a Vera icon representation in the tympanum of the keel arch . From the Gothic wall and vault paintings in the choir, preliminary drawings and remnants of the original colors have been preserved. On the south wall are shown the carrying of the cross, crucifixion, ascension , resurrection and fragmented scenes from the legend of Agnes . In the vault are the personifications of the four elements (small naked figures riding on bull, fish, dragon and salamander) as well as two angels, sun and moon, above the four evangelists and church fathers .

Furnishing

The high altar from the middle of the 18th century shows St. Agnes in the altar panel. On the side are Saints Odilia and Helena and two male saints. The central image on the left side altar from the first quarter of the 18th century depicting the Coronation of Mary is flanked by Saints George and Isidore . The wall altar from the last quarter of the 17th century consists of an aedicule with side console figures over a solid base and a blown segment gable with a monstrance on a small base as a crown. The center of the altar is a crucifixion group with Mary and John, poor souls in purgatory and angels who collect the blood of Christ in chalices.

The brick pulpit is probably from the first half of the 18th century. The octagonal baptismal font with apotropaic heads on the upper edge of the pool was created around 1480.

Karner

The Karner from the 13th century is a round building with a semicircular apse above a stepped console, buttresses, six-part rib vault and lancet window. The wall and vault paintings, created around 1320/30, were uncovered in 1976 and show the three wise men , the birth of Christ and the representation of the Lord .
