history

A church in Kolbnitz was first mentioned in a document in 1124, and in 1786 Kolbnitz received parish rights. On February 6, 1951, the church roof collapsed as a result of heavy snowfall (80 cm) and subsequent rain. On October 21, 1951, the church was consecrated again with Bishop Joseph Köstner .

architecture

The late Gothic church, whose masonry presumably contains the remains of a previous Romanesque building , was redesigned in baroque style in the 18th century . A narrow aisle was added to the nave on the north side in 1744. The tower on the north side with ogival sound windows is crowned by a pointed gable helmet. The church has a pointed south portal and baroque rectangular windows. The west portal has a chamfered wall.

The nave has a baroque flat ceiling with frame fields. The walls are not structured and are closed at the top by a cornice. The north aisle is equally high and flatly covered. The wall between the main and side aisles is open along its entire length to just below the cornice and provided with a central column. The west gallery extends over both ships.

A chamfered, late Gothic triumphal arch connects the central nave and the choir, which is about the same height and width as the central nave. The choir is covered by a baroque flat barrel from around 1700 with stitch caps , consoles and stucco tendrils. A shoulder arch portal leads from the north side of the choir into the sacristy on the tower ground floor.

Furnishing

The high altar from the middle of the 18th century contains the statue of St. James in Glory, above it a coronation of Mary and an angel blowing a trumpet. At the side of the altar are the baroque figures of the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul . The side altar on the east wall of the aisle comes from the post-Rococo period and bears a man of Sorrows with a hostage column and angels with instruments of suffering . The top picture shows Our Lady of Sorrows . The side altar on the north wall of the aisle was built in the second half of the 18th century and shows the Virgin and Child in the central image. The pulpit on the left side of the triumphal arch was made around 1750. The church also features a heavily revised Pietà from the first half of the 16th century and pictures of the Stations of the Cross from the second half of the 17th century.
