Parish Church of Marz
The Roman Catholic parish church of Marz is in an elevated position in the municipality of Marz in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . The parish church , consecrated for the feast of the Coronation of Mary , belongs to the Mattersburg deanery in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
A medieval parish was accepted. After the fire (1683) in the Turkish War , the church was rebuilt by the donor Zacharias Gundian (1691) using Gothic masonry. In 1713 there was a change of patronage to the Trinity . After a fire (1733) the church was restored. The patronage for the coronation of Mary has existed since the beginning of the 20th century. From 1926 to 1932 the church was completely restored. 1959/1960 was an interior restoration. In 1975 the church was repainted. In 1979 the exterior was restored with the uncovering of Gothic windows.
architecture
The compact nave with buttresses shows under the eaves partially walled keyhole notches from a Gothic battlement. A three-storey west tower was placed in front of the west facade. The tower has a stone pyramid helmet between the gable and corner turret and shows a bird in the wrought-iron cross. The church shows the foundation inscription Zacharias Gundian 1691 on the south side. The retracted - Gothic core - choir has high, single-tiered buttresses and shows the year 1628 on one buttress.
Furnishing
The remarkable high altar from the second half of the 18th century with a high structure with columns and angels on the entablature shows the eye of God in the top.
