Parish church Nussdorf am Attersee

The Roman Catholic parish church of Nussdorf am Attersee is located in the municipality of Nussdorf am Attersee in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to Saint Mauritius and belongs to the Schörfling pastoral care room in the Schörfling dean's office . The church is a listed building .

history

The parish of Nussdorf was first mentioned in a document in the middle of the 14th century. During the Reformation the Catholic parish was dissolved and the church was used by Protestants for over 200 years . Despite the Counter-Reformation , the proportion of Protestants in the total population remained very high and is still 12% today. The church was later used by the Jesuits from the Traunkirchen monastery for preaching. Under Emperor Joseph II the Catholic? Parish Nußdorf rebuilt in 1783. In 1789 the Protestant community established a private school in Zell am Attersee , which was one of the oldest in Upper Austria. The school operated until 1925. After a major fire, the church had to be largely renewed between 1816 and 1818. In the course of this, today's west tower was built and the nave was extended by an extension. The image of Mary on the left side altar is known beyond the parish boundaries. The artist Emanuel Oberhauser chose the portrait of Emma Adler (1858–1935), wife of the Social Democrat Viktor Adler . The portrait was viewed critically by the local population, as Oberhauser depicted a "Jewish woman" or a social democrat. The painter countered the accusation by stating that Maria was also a Jew. In connection with the painting of the Virgin Mary, the formation of a legend is interesting, which says that the church was destroyed in a fire, only the picture remained intact. Obviously, historical facts such as the Nussdorf fire disaster (1857) and the sensational image of the Virgin Mary are brought into relation here.

Church building

Of the originally late Gothic church, only the chancel (choir) is preserved today. The one-bay chancel with a 5/8 end has a ribbed vault. The building was expanded in 1987/88.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1836 was built in neo- late baroque - classical forms. The altarpiece shows Saint Mauritius as a Roman soldier with his companions John and Paul and two Roman palace officials. On the wall of the choir arch are two baroque statues of the two weather saints John and Paul from the first quarter of the 18th century. They are dressed as Roman legionaries and carry a palm branch as a sign that they were martyrs. A Gothic baptismal font has also been preserved. After the church renovation in 1986/87, a single-manual organ with split registers and attached pedal was built in the style of the old Spanish organ by the Belgian organ builder Patrick Collon .

On the south side of the cemetery wall there is a burial chapel with inscribed skulls and painted relief images (Nativity, Flight into Egypt - 1868).
