from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Patrick Collon (born November 1942 ) is a Belgian organ builder who has come to the fore by building new organs in a historical style. Collon has delivered organs to various Western European countries and restored historical instruments.

life and work

Patrick Collon was born in 1942 to an English mother and a Belgian-Russian father. He attended Eton College and learned organ building from 1960 to 1963 with Wilhelm Zika in St. Florian (Linz-Land) . From 1964 he attended the master school in Ludwigsburg together with Gerald Woehl . In 1967, Collon set up his own organ building company in Laken , Belgium under the name "Manufacture d'orgues de Bruxelles". His company manufactures organs behind simple, cube-shaped prospects. Collon developed the neo-baroque organ building with German and later Iberian influences to create his own style. The instruments are often based on the classic Italian, French or Spanish style of the 18th century without copying specific historical models. His Herford organ from 2004 combines different national styles. In addition to building new organs, Collon has also restored historic organs. In 2012, the list of works comprised 141 instruments, most of them new builds, of which 60 were delivered abroad. This makes Collon the most productive Belgian organ builder in the second half of the 20th century.
