Gerald Woehl
Gerald Woehl (* 1940 ) is a German organ builder and restorer of musical instruments.
Life
Gerald Woehl - son of the composer Waldemar Woehl - comes from the third generation of a family of musicians. He grew up near Wasserburg am Inn and learned organ building with Wagner & Vier (1956–1959) and until 1964 with Haerpfner & Erman in Boulay-Moselle . There Woehl got to know French organ building from Walter Haerpfer , the artistic director of the Manufacture de Grand-Orgues de la Lorraine . This was followed by the master's examination (1964–1966). He studied the construction of symphonic organs with Georges Lhôte , a freelance organ builder. His teacher for drawing, painting and sculpture was Günter Späth . In addition to new organs, Woehl restored numerous historical organs.
Woehl has lived in Marburg an der Lahn since 1966 , where he has been running an organ building workshop ever since. In 1985 the company moved from Ziegelstrasse to the listed Schwanhof area. In addition, he founded a restoration workshop for historical keyboard instruments in 1982 with the restorer, harpsichord and piano maker Monika May . Since 2003 Woehl has also had a studio in the Sanssouci garden in Potsdam .
