history

A parish was accepted in the middle of the 14th century when it was founded as a market (1364). The core of the originally Gothic three-aisled church building from the 15th century has been preserved. With the demolition of the nave (1720), a new Baroque building of the nave and a Baroque renovation of the choir (1721) began with the builder Matthias Bereiter. The tower was raised in 1731/132 with the builder Johann Ceregetti. The two upper floors were changed in 1868. The high helmet was put on in 1930 and the tower is 73 meters high. Interior restorations were made in 1785, 1828, 1857, 1884 to 1893, 1935/1936 (choir) and 1947 (nave).

architecture

The baroque nave appears as a spacious single-nave five-bay arched over by a wide-span, pushed barrel. On both sides of the nave there are five deep chapels under barrel vaults, which cut into the nave vault with a small stitch cap. The triple curved west gallery stands on four pillars. The drawn-in low two-bay choir has a rounded three-eighth end and stepped buttresses. All vaults as well as the organ gallery are covered with rich, delicate band and lattice work around 1725. The west tower with a Gothic keel-arched west portal has a ribbed vaulted tower hall and a high helmet. To the side of the tower there is a chapel across the width of the nave, to the north is the two-bay, barrel-vaulted miserable chapel, mentioned in a document in 1465 and rebuilt from 1731 to 1733, to the south the two-bay Anna chapel, the south bay with a late Gothic ribbed vault, the north bay baroque-vaulted baroque barrel. The baroque north portal shows the building inscription 1721.

The ceiling paintings and the Stations of the Cross on the rear walls of the chapel were created by the painter Josef Gold (1884–1893). Earlier frescoes in the vault of the gallery and the frescoes St. Josef and Nikolaus in the cloth makers 'chapel and millers' chapel around 1727 were uncovered in 1947. On the north wall is a late Gothic fresco Last Judgment from the 1st quarter of the 16th century, which was disfigured in 1902/1903 restored.

Furnishing

  • The high altar (1663–1665) in the choir is a carpenter's work by Peter Widmann with figures by Thomas Schwanthaler . The high altar picture Intercession of St. Peter and Paul at Maria's is from 1780. The magnificent tabernacle (1770) was created by Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder. The two busts of St. Peter and Paul made of silver (1688) based on a design by Thomas Schwanthaler was probably created by the goldsmith Wolf Adam Gamon. The high altar was restored in 1785, 1828, 1850 and 1935/1936. The choir stalls were created by Thomas Schwanthaler (1699).

The chapels of the nave and their furnishings have different donors.

  • Shoemaker's Chapel: The Martin Altar was built by the brothers Martin and Michael Zürn (1656) and was transferred here from the broken church in Kapellen in Aspach. The central group of figures Martin with a beggar is flanked with Ambrosius and Augustine. The shoemaker saints Crispin and Crispinian are from the earlier shoemaker's altar. On the altar pedestal are two Gothic figures Briccius and Wolfgang from the end of the 15th century. In between the figures Josef and Antonius from the Schwanthaler workshop and Judas Thaddäus from Josef Furthner .
  • Bräuerkapelle: Remarkable Florianialtar by Thomas Schwanthaler (1669). The middle group Florian shows a view of Ried.

There is a late Gothic font at the north portal.

  • Müller Chapel: Joseph Altar from 1710. The group of figures Anna with Maria and Christ in the essay was created by Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder (1784).
  • Cloth makers' chapel: The baroque altar bears the figure of Peter, probably by Thomas Schwanthaler from the 2nd half of the 17th century. There is a coat of arms tombstone Lazarus Messenpeck, died 1473, from the workshop of Hans Eybenstock in Salzburg.
  • Left side altar: The marble cross altar (1639), originally a Tattenbach grave memorial , has figures of the Zürn brothers and a group of guardian angels by Johann Franz Schwanthaler from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century.
  • Right side altar: The marble altar of Mary (1888) is modeled on the left side altar. Wilhelm Dachauer (1927) painted the altarpiece of Our Lady . Josef Furthner (1931/1932) created the wooden figures Adam and Eve.
  • Butcher's Chapel: Trinity altar (1849) in baroque forms.
  • Tailor's Chapel: English greeting altar from the end of the 17th century with the statues of John the Baptist and Joseph in the manner of Thomas Schwanthaler. The Herz Jesu group was created by Josef Furthner.

The pulpit (1720) has a rich sound cover with statues of the four evangelists and God the Father in the style of Johann Franz Schwanthaler.

  • Weaver's Chapel: Altar with Pietà by Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder (1785). The side statues Benno and Wolfgang are from the 18th century.
  • Baker's Chapel: Altar from the 1st half of the 17th century with the central group Flagellation of Christ from the 2nd half of the 18th century. In the essay is a late Gothic high relief Martyrdom of St. Ursula from the beginning of the 16th century.
  • Anna Chapel: There are two late baroque altars in stucco marble. The painting of St. Erasmus is from 1726. There is a tombstone Ruprecht Wolff, died 1629, depicting the tree of paradise. There is a notable tomb of Peter Hilleprandt, died 1727, and his wife Maria Barbara, died 1732.
  • Misery chapel: The chapel is used today as a confessional chapel. There are remarkable life-size figures of the Mount of Olives, probably a late work by Thomas Schwanthaler, which initially stood outside in a niche by the choir and was transferred here.

There are a large number of tombstones on the outside of the church, mostly from the 15th and 16th centuries. Particularly noteworthy in the tower hall is the tombstone Ulrich Widmer, who died in 1484, with a figure relief.

The organ from 1864 was renewed in 1924. There is a bell from 1477 and a bell from 1506.
