The Roman Catholic parish church of Sankt Martin im Sulmtal is located in the municipality of Sankt Martin im Sulmtal in the Deutschlandsberg district in Styria . The parish church consecrated to Saint Martin of Tours belonged to the then dissolved dean's office in Deutschlandsberg in the diocese of Graz-Seckau until the end of August 2018 ; since this dean's office was closed, it has been located in the pastoral care area of ​​Southwest Styria. The church is a listed building .

history

First mentioned in a document in 1244, there was a parish from 1395 until the 16th century. The church then went to the Gleinstätten parish church as a branch . In 1664/1665 a new tower was built and from 1701 to 1714 a new baroque church was added and consecrated in 1720. In 1783 the double onion helmet was put on. In 1788 the church was raised to a parish church. In 1906 there was a restoration.

architecture

In the open tower hall there is a late Gothic barbed pointed arch portal from the beginning of the 16th century as a remnant of the former east-facing Gothic church building.

The four-bay nave with a drawn-in front arch is followed by a one-bay choir with a three-twelfth cap. A sacristy is attached to the south and a chapel to the north is attached to the choir. The southern facade tower wears a rich double-onion helmet.

The interior of the church shows flat groin vaults on girders with strong pillars with small cornice capitals . The three-axis west gallery has a groin vault.

Outside the sacristy are two Roman stones, a figural stone and a stone with an ornament fragment.

Furnishing

The mighty late baroque high altar was changed in 1823/1824 and shows an altarpiece painted by Philipp Carl Laubmann (1745). The upper image of St. Johannes Nepomuk .

There is a 14th century bell.
