The Roman Catholic parish church Schörfling is located in the village of Schörfling in the market town of Schörfling am Attersee in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . The church, consecrated to St. Gallus , belongs to the Deanery Schörfling in the Diocese of Linz . The church and the former cemetery are under monument protection .

history

In the second half of the 15th century, the church was rebuilt, presumably according to plans by Stephan Wultinger. In 1476, Bishop Albert Schönhofer von Salona consecrated the choir as suffragan of the Bishop of Passau and in 1515 the hall church was consecrated. Count Khevenhüller arranged for a Loreto chapel to be added in 1638, and in the course of the burgeoning Marian veneration, Schörfling became a Marian pilgrimage site. From 1638 to 1654 the church tower was built in the southern choir corner. In a major fire in 1787, the chapel, most of the church and 36 houses were destroyed, whereby the Loreto chapel was no longer rebuilt. In 1828 there was another major fire that destroyed 14 houses and the church tower including the bells. In 1889 the baroque high altar was dismantled down to the tabernacle and two late baroque high altar figures, documented in 1774/75 by Ignaz Mähl from Wels, came to the Linz Diocesan Museum.

architecture

The two-aisled hall church with a remarkable urge to rise has a four-bay nave and a retracted two-bay choir with a three-eighth end and shows remarkable ribbed vaults in the nave and choir.

Furnishing

Tabernacle with two life-size baroque statues

Only the tabernacle remains of the high altar. The two life-size baroque statues to the left and right of the tabernacle represent St. Ambrose with beehive and St. Augustine with a burning heart.

organ

In 1873 Johann Nepomuk Carl Mauracher created an organ for the church. In 1990 a new instrument by Gerhard Hradetzky with 19 registers was handed over to its intended use.
